Are You Healing Or Just Consuming Healing Content?

There was a time when people scrolled Instagram for fashion inspiration. Now they scroll for healing.

Every third reel is about:
  • Trauma
  • Attachment styles
  • Nervous system regulation
  • Inner child work
  • Emotional intelligence
At first glance, this seems like progress. People are finally talking about mental health. But there's a question I keep coming back to. Are we healing? Or are we consuming healing content?

The Wellness Content Trap

The internet has made mental health more accessible than ever. Search for anxiety symptoms, online therapy, therapy for overthinking or stress management and you'll find thousands of answers within seconds. The problem is that information can create the illusion of progress.

Watching a reel about boundaries feels productive. Saving a post about anxiety feels productive. Listening to a podcast about trauma feels productive. But none of these things necessarily create change.

Why Healing Has Become Entertainment

Modern wellness content is designed to keep your attention. The more emotionally activated you are, the longer you stay. The more you stay, the more content you consume.

Eventually healing becomes another category of content.

Like food videos. Like travel videos. Like fashion videos. Something interesting to watch. Not something you actually practise.

The Difference Between Healing And Learning

Healing usually looks boring.

It looks like:
  • Going for therapy sessions consistently
  • Having difficult conversations
  • Sitting with uncertainty
  • Taking breaks from social media
  • Sleeping adequately
  • Setting boundaries
Healing rarely feels glamorous. Content about healing often does. That's the difference.

The New Anxiety

I see many people who are no longer anxious about their lives. They're anxious about whether they're healing correctly.

  • Am I regulating enough?
  • Am I growing enough?
  • Am I self-aware enough?
  • Am I emotionally evolved enough?
The pursuit of healing has become another source of stress.

Final Thoughts

Mental health content can be incredibly useful. But there comes a point where watching another reel isn't helping. The next step isn't more information. It's action. Because healing doesn't happen on your For You Page. It happens in your actual life.
